Meet Sonya
You may ask who am I? Well, a simple answer to that question might be that I am a daughter, granddaughter, sister, cousin, niece and friend. However, my preferred answer to that question is way more complex than just that. Who I am is constantly evolving and undergoing changes each and every day. Life has its way of teaching you who you need to be for yourself and those around you. I represent strength, resilience, beauty and power. I represent women who are silenced and told that they need to be submissive to men. I am here to prove that women can dream and fight hard until it’s their reality. I believe in love, kindness, compassion, humanity, laughter and living a great life despite all of the odds. My grandmother has been my inspiration all of my life. Her devotion to her family and loved ones are unmatched. She is such a beautiful soul with a heart made of pure gold and I give her one hundred percent of the credit for the morals that I have today. If I grow into being half the woman that she is, I know that I am going to be okay. Picking a favorite quote of mine seems so impossible because I love reading motivational quotes daily. However, I always seem to keep this one in the back of my mind: “Like a lotus flower, we too have the ability to rise from the mud, bloom out of the darkness and radiate into the world.” In December of 2021, I am going to be twenty four years old. Some of my favorite shows are The Golden Girls, Gilmore Girls, New Girl and The Office. I grew up watching a lot of Bollywood movies. Some of my favorites are Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, Diwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and the list could go on and on if I include all of my favorite Hollywood movies so I’ll just end the answer to this question right here.
